I am not going to be concerned with being attentive, but i am going to see what is inattention. I am watching inattention, and i see i am inattentive most of the time. So i am going to pay attention to one thing at a time, that is, when i walk, when i eat, i am going to walk, eat with attention. I am not going to think about something else, but i am going to pay attention to every little thing . So what has been inattention becomes attention.

So i am now watching inattention. That is, i am watching that i am not attentive.

Kabir says : i was searching and searching and searching, and a miracle happened: the searcher disappeared, and that was the moment - when there was no seeker, no searcher - that it was found.

When the mind is quiet, we come to know ourselves as the pure witness. We withdraw from the experience and its experiencer and stand apart in pure awareness, which is between and beyond two. The personality, based on self identification, on imagining oneself to be something: i am this , i am that, continues, but only as a part of the objective world. Its identification with the witness snaps.

The true knowledge of the self is not a knowledge. It is not something that you find by searching , by looking everywhere. It is not to be found in space or time. Knowledge is but a memory, a pattern of thought, a mental habit. All these are motivated by pleasure and pain. It is because you are goaded by pleasure and pain that you are in search of knowledge. Being oneself is completely beyond all motivation. You cannot be YOURSELF for some reason. You are YOURSELF , and no reason is needed.

The real does not die, the unreal never lived. Once you know that death happens to the body and not to you, you just watch your body falling off like a discarded grament.
The real you is timeless and beyond birth and death. The body will survive as long as it is needed. It is not important that it should live long.
